“If this is it and there’s nothing more, we’ve done good. There isn’t a single thing that can touch us.”

Gary and Nicky have been together since school. Gary’s going for a promotion so he can get his family out of their council flat and give Nicky everything she deserves. It’s Friday and they’re having a party with their family and closest friends. What could possibly go wrong? Set amidst a contemporary British community, this unflinching new play asks how it’s possible to get on when the odds are stacked against you.

“It’s a good place. Keep watching and one day it’ll be ours.”

Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti has written extensively for stage, screen and radio. Her work includes Khandan (Royal Court), Elephant, Behzti/Dishonour (Birmingham Rep), the latter won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. Director Michael Buffong is Artistic Director of Talawa Theatre.
