The Fantasticks

New Fantasticks Site Goes Live

We have set up a new micro site for The Fantasticks.

The Fantasticks tells an allegorical story, loosely based on the play The Romancers (Les Romanesques) by Edmond Rostand, concerning two neighboring fathers who put up a wall between their houses to ensure that their children fall in love, because they know children always do what their parents forbid.

The show’s original off-Broadway production ran a total of 42 years and 17,162 performances, making it the world’s longest-running musical.

The Fantasticks has played in every U.S. state, in more than 11,103 productions in over 2,000 cities and towns and from May next year will be playing at the Duchess Theatre in London.

A celebration of life, love and freedom, and a passionate cry for hope and change, Hair features some of the greatest songs ever written for the stage, including ‘Let The Sun Shine In’, ‘I Got Life’, ‘Hair’ and ‘Aquarius’.

Performances start in April at the Gielgud Theatre with the whole of the Broadway cast transferring to London for the first time in the West End’s history.

Parental guidance is advised as Hair contains nudity, strong language and adult themes.

New Website – Have Your Say

We are developing a whole new website and would like to give you the opportunity to let us know what you would (or wouldn’t) like to see.

We have already made a new theatre page live which is along the lines of how we envisage the new site to be. This is not a final version, it’s just a start.

The navigation for our different categories is now at the top of the sidebar on the right. The plan is that each section of the site will have a different colour scheme which matches the colour of the navigation link to that section i.e the theatre page is blue, the opera page will be green etc.

Any other pages such as the contact page, news pages etc will all remain on a brown scheme.

We have also decided to cut down on the number of categories to those currently shown on the new theatre page which are theatre, opera, ballet, hotels, restaurants, dating and concerts. We have also been thinking about cutting down the number of locations to the major towns and cities only but a final decision is yet to be made.

Please let us know your thoughts on any of this and any other comments or thoughts you may have on how we can make a better site.

What other features would you like to see? What current features don’t you like? What current features do you like?

Free Theatre Tickets

Half a million theatre tickets are being given away free in a bid to encourage more young people to visit the theatre.

A Night Less Ordinary is Arts Council England’s new scheme to get more under 26-year-olds to the theatre. More than 200 venues – from Cornish village halls to the National Theatre – are taking part in the giveaway.

Barbara Matthews, of Arts Council England, said the scheme would last for two years.

Although going to the theatre is not as expensive as many people think – there are all sorts of theatres of ranges and sizes across the country – the best way of getting people to have a go is to say ‘OK, come for free and give it a try’.

People might have a go at something they have never tried before and that’s exactly what we want them to do.

Former Spooks star Rupert Penry-Jones, who began his career on the stage, made an appearance on the BBC breakfast programme yesterday to promote the scheme saying that theatres needed new audiences to secure their long-term survival.

If young people don’t start going now then nobody is going to be going to the theatre in about 10-20 years’ time. We’ll have no audiences there.

I think an experience in the theatre is like no other. When you watch a moving film you do cry, but compared to a moving play – a play that really gets you – it stays with you forever.

The same with laughing. I have laughed so much in the theatre I’ve actually fallen off my seat, whereas in the cinema it’s not quite the same.

And if you look at a theatre audience – if you take your eyes off the stage for a second and look around – the look on their faces is like no other expression in the world.

Theatre London – New Site

Theatre London is our latest theatre ticket site to go live. is similar to our other theatre sites but has evolved in many areas, hopefully making things clearer and easier for you to use.

We have now incorporated our red quick ticket search box which now really stands out against the rest of the colour scheme. Another change to make things clearer is the seperation of musicals and plays in the side bar by coloured headings. Before the list of musicals and plays all rolled in to one with no clear seperation. The full list of musicals and plays are now accessible from the top navigation bar.
