Oliver – New Review

Charles Spencer has returned to Oliver! at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to re-review for the Daily Telegraph, in light of the new cast, particularly the actor and stand-up comedian Omid Djalili who is now playing the role of Fagin (previously played by Rowan Atkinson).

Clearly Mr. Spencer was again delighted, and reveived his “guaranteed good night out” as he says in the review, since he has given this review 5*s.

From the moments when four dozen (count ’em) ridiculously cute workhouse kids troop on to the stage and sing Food, Glorious Food in Rupert Goold’s production you know you are in safe hands, and Bart’s superbly tuneful score and what survives of Dickens’s great heart combine to make an evening of almost continuous pleasure.
