Kenneth Branagh Quits Hamlet
Kenneth Branagh will not be continuing next year as Director of Hamlet starring Jude Law. Branagh will instead be directing a movie version of the Marvel comic Thor.
Branagh is Artistic Associate of the Donmar West End Season. Theatre credits include: Edmond (NT), Richard III (Sheffield Crucible), Hamlet, Henry V (RSC), Coriolanus (Chichester Festival), A Midsummer Night’s Dream and King Lear – also directed (World tour).
His movie director credits include: Sleuth, The Magic Flute, As You Like It, Listening, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Hamlet, In the Bleak Midwinter, Frankenstein, Much Ado About Nothing, Peter’s Friends, Swan Song, Dead Again and the multi award winning Henry V.
Replacing Branagh as Director of Hamlet will be Michael Grandage, artistic director of Donmar, who’s work has won Olivier, Evening Standard, Critics’ Circle and South Bank Awards. Grandage is currently directing Branagh in the title role of Ivanov.
